The Sumatran Rhino is the smallest rhinoceros species, as well as the one with the most fur. The Sumatran rhino horn is still used in traditional Asian medicines. The Sumatran Rhino once lived throughout southeast Asia but today is only found in the rainforests on Sumatra, an island in Indonesia. Poaching is also another major threat to the species. Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra in Indonesia, which is now estimated to have the largest single population of Sumatran rhinos, is still losing forest cover due to conversion of forest for coffee and rice production by illegal settlers. The species was declared extinct in the wild in Malaysia in 2015. They are covered with long hair and are more closely related to the extinct woolly rhinos than any of the other rhino species alive today. Because of poaching, numbers have decreased more than 50% over the last 20 years.
